Generally I start the day with collecting the PET bottels and cans that children bring to school in the morning. If it is dry weather I stay on the site and prepare the work for saturday. It involves selecting tires and cutting tires to make halfblocks. The last two weeks I worked also on the metalstructure of the domes. I painted the rusty iron arcs with a primer. I choose to do this with a brush rather than with the spray gun. It is time consuming but the results are better. After the coating was finnished I started soldering the arcs together. Here and there I had to make reinforces. After this stage the dome looks like a big octopus with a diametre of more than five meters. Next step was attaching several lengths of rebar to the legs. I started at the top of the dome, slowly spiraling down. At first I tried soldering the rebar to the legs but that did n’t work well. So I decided to attach the rebar with steel wire to the legs. When the rebar was in place I started covering the whole dome with chicken wire. For days I was twisting hundreds of little wires to fixate the chicken wire to my little octopus. It had to be done well in order to give enough stiffness to the dome. By now my hands look I played with a wild cat, so many scratches ther are. The idea behind this construction is to cover everything with jute, drenched in wet cement once the metal frame is on top of the tire walls.

Generalmente, começo o dia reunindo de manhã as garrafas PET e as latinhas que as crianças trazem para a escola. Se o tempo está seco, fico na construção e preparo o trabalho para sábado. Envolve escolher os pneus e cortá-los para obter os meio blocos. Nas últimas duas semanas, trabalhei também na estrutura de metal para as cúpulas. Pintei o ferro enferrujado com uma pintura de fundo, zarcão. Escolhi fazer o serviço com um pincel no lugar de usar uma pistola. Gasta mais tempo, porém o resultado é melhor. Depois de terminado a demão, comecei a soldar os arcos uns aos outros. Em alguns lugares, tive de reforçar com aço. Ao terminar esse estágio, a cúpula se parece q um polvo gigante, com um diâmetro maior que 5 metros. O próximo passo foi amarrar a estrutura por cima com ferros de construção. Comecei na parte superior da cúpula e devagarinho fui construindo uma espiral. Tentei soldar a estrutura, mas não funcionou bem. Então, decidi aramar o ferro de construção com arame nas pernas. Quando o ferro de construção estava no lugar, comecei a colocar tela de galinha. Durante vários dias, estive enrolando centenas de pequenos fios de arame com objetivo de fixar a tela de galinha em meu pequeno polvo.Precisava ficar bem feito para dar a estrutura necessária para segurar rigidamente a cúpula. Agora, minhas mãos dão a impressão de que lutei com um gato, de tantos arranhões. A ideia por trás dessa construção é cobrir totalmente com juta coberta com cimento molhado, assim que que a estrutura metálica esteja no topo das paredes de pneus.
